Singapore undergraduate admissions · NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD

Singapore undergraduate admissions consultants: NUS, NTU, SMU and more.

Excellent Class 12 marks matter. But are they enough for NUS, NTU or SMU? Each university reads Indian boards, tests and predicted marks differently, and strong students still lose places to the wrong programme choice, a missing test score or a late result upload. Our Singapore undergraduate admissions support helps Indian families make realistic choices, prepare every part of the application and present real strengths clearly.

Why it's different

Four universities, four sets of rules for Indian students.

Singapore has no common application. Each university decides for itself how to treat your board, your marks and your test scores.

Good marks let your child apply. They don't decide the outcome. NTU sets a minimum average of 93% including English for India Standard 12 applicants, and SMU at least 90% in five subjects including English. Those are thresholds, not targets. NUS assesses academic and non-academic achievements, NTU says places for non-citizens are limited and highly competitive, and SMU and SUTD meet shortlisted applicants before deciding.

The traps are specific. A state-board student applying to NUS must send standardised test scores: the SAT or ACT with Writing plus at least three AP courses, or five AP courses, with AP Calculus BC compulsory for every programme except Law. A CBSE or ISC student applying to the same programme does not. SMU needs one test score (SAT, ACT, IELTS, TOEFL, C1 Advanced, PTE Academic or AST) from every Indian Standard 12 applicant, whatever the board. And NTU decides only on actual board results, so its India Standard 12 outcomes are expected at the end of July 2027.

We start with the student, not a list of universities: which programmes fit the subjects your child actually takes, which tests are needed and by when, and which achievements are worth listing. We have no admissions partnership with any university and are never paid by one, so every recommendation is made for the student.

How we help

How GyanOne helps with your Singapore application.

Six pieces of work, each matched to how NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD actually assess Indian applicants.

01

Profile assessment

We read the student's board, subjects, Class 10 and 11 marks and likely Class 12 scores against each university's minimums, and flag gaps early, such as a state-board student who will need SAT and AP scores for NUS.

02

University and programme selection

Prerequisites rule out more students than marks do. NUS Business, Computing and Engineering need Year 12 Mathematics; NTU's Business, Economics and Psychology need it too unless Additional Mathematics is on the Class 10 record. We order choices around the subjects the student actually takes.

03

Application and test planning

One calendar for four windows (NTU from 15 October, NUS from 16 December, SMU and SUTD once announced), covering tests, official score reports, IB transcript access and the three-day deadline for uploading board results.

04

Short responses and achievements

NUS asks mandatory short response questions, NTU's aptitude-based route asks for answers of up to 200 words, and SUTD asks personal insight questions. We help students decide what to say and say it well in their own words; NUS warns applicants against AI or ghostwriting.

05

Recommendations and school documents

SUTD takes up to two referees, NTU's aptitude-based route needs one or two appraisals, and SMU accepts predicted scores only when the school attests them. We help families brief teachers and counsellors and get documents in the right form.

06

Interviews and post-offer decisions

Preparation for SMU interviews, SUTD's faculty conversation and NUS programme assessments, then help weighing offers and the MOE Tuition Grant, which lowers fees in return for a three-year work bond.

Questions

Singapore undergraduate admissions: questions parents ask.

Do Indian students need the SAT for NUS, NTU or SMU?

It depends on the board and the university. NUS needs no SAT, ACT or AP from CBSE and ISC students, but state-board students must submit SAT or ACT with Writing plus at least three AP courses, or five AP courses. NTU needs no SAT for India Standard 12. SMU asks every Indian Standard 12 applicant for one test, and an English test such as IELTS counts. Read our guide to applying to NUS and NTU without the SAT.

What Class 12 marks do NUS, NTU and SMU expect?

NTU's published minimum is a 93% average including English, and SMU's is at least 90% in five subjects including English. NUS asks for a good pass in five subjects including English and does not publish a percentage cut-off for Indian boards. These are minimums to apply. Places for international students are limited, so competitive applicants usually sit well above them.

Can my child apply before the Class 12 board results?

Yes, at all four, but the rules differ. NUS takes the most recent school results and needs CBSE or ISC results within 3 days of release. NTU decides only on actual results and makes no provisional offers. SMU accepts predicted scores only if the school attests them. SUTD may ask shortlisted predicted-results applicants to sit an entrance examination.

When should we apply for 2027 entry?

NTU's India Standard 12 and IB window runs from 15 October 2026 to 19 March 2027, and NUS's from 16 December 2026 to 17 February 2027. SMU and SUTD have not yet published 2027 dates; their 2026-entry windows closed on 19 March and 2 March 2026. Have test scores and documents ready before each window opens.

How much do NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD cost?

For students starting in 2026–27, annual tuition for international students outside ASEAN, with the Tuition Grant, was S$21,400 to S$22,200 at NUS and NTU for Business, Computing, Engineering and most science and humanities programmes, S$26,200 at SMU (S$30,450 for Law) and S$31,600 at SUTD. Without the grant, the same NUS and NTU programmes cost S$33,400 to S$45,600, SMU S$47,700 and SUTD S$62,076. Medicine, Dentistry and Music cost more. Fees for 2027 entry are not yet published. See our guide to scholarships and the Tuition Grant.

What does the MOE Tuition Grant bond involve?

International students who accept it must work full-time for a Singapore entity for three years after graduating, and two sureties sign the agreement. At NUS, a student admitted without the grant cannot get NUS or MOE-funded financial aid or scholarships for the whole degree. You indicate your choice in the application form, so decide early.

Can Indian Class 12 students apply for Medicine or Law at NUS?

Not while still completing Standard 12: NUS closes Dentistry, Law, Medicine and Nursing to applicants whose results come after the closing date. Students who already hold Class 12 results can apply for all programmes. At NTU, applicants whose results come out after 1 April cannot apply for LKCMedicine or the Renaissance Engineering Programme that year.

Do we need a consultant for Singapore applications?

Not always. Some students manage well alone, especially CBSE or ISC students applying only to NTU. Families come to us when the choices are harder: state boards, IB predicted grades, several universities with different tests, or a decision between Singapore and other countries. Tell us about the student if you'd like a second opinion.

Parent and student enquiries

Planning Singapore applications for 2027?

Tell us the student's class, school curriculum (CBSE, ISC, IB or other), intended course, target universities and entry year. A consultant will reply personally.

  • No university tie-ups. We are never paid by universities, so advice is in the student's interest.
  • Board-specific advice. CBSE, ISC, state boards and IB each face different rules in Singapore.
  • Parents welcome. We work directly with the student, and parents can bring their questions on fees, the Tuition Grant and timing.
