Australia undergraduate admissions · Melbourne, Sydney, UNSW and Monash

Australia undergraduate admissions consulting for Indian students.

Melbourne, Sydney, UNSW or Monash? The right choice begins with the course, not just the university ranking. Each university reads CBSE, ISC and IB results its own way and runs its own calendar, and Class 12 results rarely line up with a February start. Our Australia undergraduate admissions support helps Indian families choose the right course and intake, then submit applications that meet every requirement on time.

Why it's different

Four universities, four ways of reading a Class 12 marksheet.

There is no common application for Indian students. Each university sets its own scores, subject rules and calendar.

Most Indian students apply to each Australian university directly, not through UAC or VTAC. The admissions centres handle students taking an Australian Year 12 and, depending on the university, the IB Diploma. CBSE and ISC students apply direct everywhere, through separate portals with separate deadlines. Even IB rules differ: Melbourne and Monash want IB students outside Australia and New Zealand to apply direct, while UNSW makes UAC optional for IB students overseas.

The same marks are also read differently. For 2027 Commerce, Melbourne averages your best four subjects and asks 90 from CBSE or ISC students. UNSW counts English or Hindi plus the best four CBSE subjects and asks 85, but wants 92 from ISC. Sydney turns CBSE grades into points (19 for Commerce), and Monash asks 81% from CBSE and 76% from ISC. Add maths prerequisites, English rules and a February start that comes before board results, and a plan that suits one university can fail at the next.

We start with the course your child wants to study, then find the university and intake that fit it. GyanOne has no admissions partnership with any university and is never paid by universities, so every recommendation is made for the student. Parents are welcome throughout; we work directly with the student.

How we help

How GyanOne helps with your Australian applications.

Six steps that decide whether an application lands in the right course at the right time.

01

Results and profile assessment

We read your Class 10 to 12 marks the way each university will: best four subjects at Melbourne, English plus best four at UNSW, grade points at Sydney.

02

Course and university selection

Melbourne's broad-then-graduate model, Sydney's combined degrees and UNSW's career-focused programmes suit different students. We match them to your child.

03

Intake and application planning

Mid-year 2027 or Semester 1 2028? We map deadlines, predicted-mark rules and your results date, so offers and visa steps don't collide.

04

Statements and written answers

Sydney's International Student Award asks for three 200-word answers, some courses need portfolios or interviews, and the visa form sets 150-word limits on Genuine Student questions.

05

School documents and English evidence

Predicted-mark letters in the format each university wants (UNSW asks for school letterhead signed by the principal or another named official), marksheets and the right English evidence.

06

Offers, scholarships and visa preparation

Comparing offers, meeting scholarship rounds that need an unconditional offer, and preparing for the Genuine Student requirement.

Questions

Australia undergraduate admissions: questions parents ask.

Do Indian students apply through UAC or VTAC?

Usually not. CBSE and ISC students apply directly to each university. UAC (New South Wales and the ACT) and VTAC (Victoria) take international students who are studying an Australian Year 12 and, at some universities, the IB Diploma.

What CBSE or ISC marks does my child need for Melbourne, Sydney or UNSW?

For 2027 Commerce: 90 at Melbourne (best four subjects), 85 for CBSE or 92 for ISC at UNSW, and 19 grade points for CBSE or 94 for ISC at Sydney. Science asks less at all three. These are guides, not promises of a place.

Can my child apply with predicted Class 12 marks?

Often, but the rules differ. UNSW gives full offers on CBSE predicted marks 2 points above the standard requirement; ISC predicted marks are not on its list. Melbourne lets final-year students apply with their latest results for a conditional offer. Some scholarships, such as Melbourne's International Undergraduate Scholarship, use final results only.

Which intake should a Class 12 student aim for?

For a student finishing Class 12 in 2027, February or March 2027 is too early. The options are mid-year 2027 (July at Melbourne and Monash, August at Sydney), UNSW's Term 3 in September 2027, or Semester 1 2028. Semester 1 2028 leaves the most time for results, scholarships and the visa.

Does my child need IELTS?

Not always. Melbourne accepts a recent pass in CBSE or ISC English. UNSW accepts CBSE English Core at C1 or ISC English at 70% (higher for Business) within two years of starting, except for Education, Law and Medicine. Sydney's standard is IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, and 7.0 for Commerce.

How much does it cost, and what scholarships are there?

For 2027, first-year tuition for commerce, science and engineering at these four universities runs from about A$55,500 to A$66,000. For the visa, Home Affairs asks you to show at least A$29,710 a year for living costs. Melbourne, Sydney and UNSW each offer a 20% tuition award open to Indian students, and Monash pays A$15,000 a year to 20 merit scholars.

What should we know about the student visa and work rights?

Applicants must meet the Genuine Student requirement, in force since 23 March 2024. The visa charge starts at A$2,500, and students can work up to 48 hours a fortnight during term. After a bachelor's, Indian graduates can usually stay 2 years on a Temporary Graduate visa, or 3 with first-class honours in a STEM field.

Is there a cap on international students in 2027?

The government has set a National Planning Level of 295,000 new international students for 2027, the same as 2026, managed through visa processing priorities. In practice, apply early: some courses close once they are full.

Parent and student enquiries

Planning Australian university applications for 2027 or 2028?

Tell us the student's class, curriculum (CBSE, ISC, IB or other), intended course, target universities and entry year. A consultant will reply personally.

  • No university tie-ups. We are never paid by universities, so advice is in the student's interest.
  • Board-specific advice. CBSE, ISC, state boards and IB are each scored differently in Australia.
  • Parents welcome. We work directly with the student, and parents can bring their questions on fees, scholarships and timing.
