Hong Kong undergraduate admissions consulting: HKU, HKUST, CUHK and more.
Hong Kong's leading universities can be excellent options. But applicants need more than strong marks and an ambitious shortlist. Indian students apply to each university directly, outside JUPAS, and every one sets its own board cut-offs, predicted-grade rules, interviews and deadlines, the first on 12 November 2026. Our Hong Kong undergraduate admissions support helps your family choose the right programmes and submit complete, convincing applications on time.
No JUPAS and no common form: each university runs its own process.
Each university reads Class 12 marks, predicted grades and English scores in its own way.
Strong board marks make your child eligible. The rest of the application decides the outcome. JUPAS, Hong Kong's central system, is for local HKDSE students. Indian students apply to each university separately, with its own fee, programme choices, personal statement and referee. HKU publishes an expected lower boundary for Indian board applicants of 90% to 99%, depending on the programme, usually with subject minimums on top. HKUST gives a reference figure of 85% or above, and CUHK's general minimum is an 80% average. HKU says interviews, personal statements and references also count, and that meeting the minimum does not secure a place.
The traps are often procedural. CUHK's advance offer round closes on 12 November 2026, nearly two weeks before HKU and HKUST. HKU wants every predicted and actual mark typed into its application system, not just uploaded, and asks school counsellors to submit predicted grades by 1 December 2026. HKUST allows only two choices and treats the first as your highest priority. CUHK accepts one application per student and expects new exam results to be uploaded within three days of their release. Slips like these can cost a strong student a place.
We match your child's subjects and marks to programmes where both the subject rules and the headline percentage fit. HKU warns publicly about agents who promise admission, and CUHK states that it works with no recruitment agencies. We make no promises of admission. We have no admissions partnership with any university and are never paid by one. Our job is a complete, honest and persuasive application in the student's own words.

Hong Kong universities we help with.
Four universities, four application forms, and the routes Indian students use.
HKU
The University of Hong Kong teaches in English, with a 36-credit interdisciplinary Common Core and programmes from business and engineering to medicine and law.
- One application, up to three programme choices
- Indian boards: expected lower boundary of 90% to 99% by programme
- Entrance scholarships for Indian board students, including a CBSE full-ride award
HKUST
HKUST teaches in English and admits many students to a school rather than a single major, so they choose a major in the spring of Year 1 or the autumn of Year 2.
- School-based choices in science, engineering, and business and management
- Department-based engineering and programme-based options
- University housing in the first year for non-local students

- Advance offer round closes 12 November 2026
- Majors open to international students include Medicine, Law and Engineering
- Admission scholarships considered automatically
PolyU
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's faculties and schools include design, fashion and textiles, and hotel and tourism management alongside engineering, business and health sciences.

- IB: successful applicants typically scored 32 or more in recent years

How GyanOne helps with your Hong Kong application.
Each university has its own rules on choices, statements, referees and results. We plan them together.
Profile and marks review
We compare Class 10 and 12 marks, or IB predictions, with each programme's published figures. HKU's BBA, for example, looks for 92% overall and 92% in both English and Mathematics.
Programme choices and ranking
HKU allows three programme choices and HKUST two; CUHK takes one application, which all your listed programmes consider at once. We help you rank choices, and use HKUST's school-based options if your child wants time before choosing a major.
A calendar that starts in November
We plan backwards from CUHK's 12 November advance round and the 25 November HKU and HKUST deadlines, including the school's predicted grades and English proof.
Personal statements
CUHK asks for one statement of up to 6,000 characters explaining your programme choices, plus a separate 250-word statement for Medicine. We help your child answer what each one asks, in their own voice.
Referees and counsellor input
HKUST needs at least one academic referee and, for Indian board students, a predicted grade report from the school counsellor. CUHK accepts up to three referees. We brief the school early and check every result is entered correctly.
Interviews and offers
HKU invites shortlisted applicants to interviews between November and January, and some HKUST programmes require one. We run mock interviews, then help you compare offers, scholarships and deposits.

Plan my Hong Kong university applications →What our undergraduate record shows, and what it doesn't.
We have not published Hong Kong admit figures, so we won't quote any here. Across all destinations, more than 1,000 students have reached their dream universities with our undergraduate counselling, and we help 250+ undergraduate students every year. In a single year, our students received 257 undergraduate admits: 78 in the USA, 55 in Singapore, 48 in the UK, 40 in the UAE and 36 in Australia. Stanford and Harvard are among our undergraduate admits.
For Hong Kong, the method is the same one we have used since 2008: real strengths, programmes that fit, and complete applications before the early deadlines.
Hong Kong undergraduate admissions: questions parents ask.
Do Indian students apply through JUPAS?
No. JUPAS is for local students applying with HKDSE results. Indian students apply directly to each university through its international or non-JUPAS admissions scheme. HKU, for example, says non-local applicants must submit their applications directly to the university.
What Class 12 marks does my child need for HKU, HKUST or CUHK?
It depends on the programme. HKU's expected lower boundary for Indian boards is 90% for many programmes, 95% for Law and 99% for MBBS (which also expects a good working knowledge of Chinese), usually with subject minimums. HKUST gives a reference figure of 85% or above overall, and CUHK's general minimum is an average of 80% in all subjects, with Standard X and XII certificates. Treat these as minimums, not targets: admission is competitive. None of the four asks Indian board applicants for the SAT. Checked October 2026.
Which English test should we take?
Your child may not need one. All four accept Class 12 English marks: HKU asks for 90% or above, and HKUST, CUHK and PolyU ask for 80%. Otherwise IELTS Academic works: 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in Writing and Speaking for HKU, and 6.0 overall for HKUST, CUHK and PolyU. Board results arrive after the deadlines, so check when each university needs proof.
Can my child apply before the board results are out?
Yes. HKU accepts applications on predicted results and usually makes a conditional offer. HKUST asks the school counsellor for a predicted grade report. CUHK asks you to list exams still to be taken and to upload each result within three days of its release.
How much does a Hong Kong degree cost?
Tuition for non-local students in 2027/28 is HK$230,000 a year at CUHK, HK$240,000 at PolyU, HK$260,000 at HKUST, and HK$250,000 to HK$280,000 at HKU, or HK$590,000 for MBBS and dental surgery. CUHK estimates a total of about HK$292,000 (US$38,000) a year with housing and living costs.
Are there scholarships for Indian students?
Yes, and most need no separate application. HKU lists awards for Indian board students, including a full-ride scholarship for top CBSE students that covers tuition, accommodation and a living allowance. HKUST's academic awards go up to full tuition plus HK$65,000 a year, and CUHK's range from HK$5,000 to full tuition. CUHK says financial aid is not available to international students.
Can graduates stay and work in Hong Kong?
Yes, through the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG). Graduates of a full-time, locally accredited degree who apply within six months of graduating need no job offer and may be granted 24 months' stay, subject to normal immigration requirements.
Do we need a consultant, and what does GyanOne do?
You can apply on your own; every process is online. Families come to us for help with programme choice, statements, predicted grades, references and interviews across several universities at once. We work directly with the student, welcome parents' questions, and have no tie-ups with any university. Our comparison of HKU, HKUST and CUHK is a good place to start.
Planning Hong Kong applications for 2027?
Tell us the student's class, school curriculum (CBSE, ISC, IB or other), intended course, target universities and entry year. A consultant will reply personally.
- Early deadlines. CUHK's advance round closes on 12 November 2026; HKU and HKUST follow on 25 November.
- One plan, several applications. Choices, statements and references, coordinated.
- No tie-ups. We are never paid by universities, so our advice is about fit.
