2, Discuss your short-term and long-term goals and how they align with IIM’s IPMX Course.

3. Share the skill set you have acquired and give examples to support that.

4. Explain what you lack to attain your short- and long-term goals.

Short-term objectives must be particular in terms of industry, area, the organisations you want to work for, and the function you want to fill.  You must be clear about the skill set required for this position, the primary duties you will be handling, and the results you are anticipated to deliver over the following 1-2 years. In this situation, applicants are most likely to identify their short-term goals in one of three scenarios:

  1. Professional Progression– This is the case when you currently have a job in a similar field and want to go up the career ladder or improve your company’s brand.
  2. Career Shift– You wish to “shift” into a more exciting role in a more exciting industry and organisation. So, in a nutshell, you want to shift your industry, position profile, and, most likely, area
  3. The Management Consulting Bug– Getting into management consulting with a top-tier firm is one of the most common dreams for applicants who wish to change roles. Regardless of their existing positions or previous experience, the consulting role is where your performance and business acumen are tested.

For long-term professional aspirations, the most straightforward option is to highlight your career advancement as a long-term goal. All of them are appropriate as long as a clear and direct path exists between short and long-term objectives. The admissions committee will recognise your ambition.

The other group is individuals who want to start their own business. The admissions team would be delighted to give you the opportunity as long as they can see the skills you’re learning in a short-term job you’re developing & benefitting from them. That’s okay if your short- and long-term objectives are linked and gel together.

Analysis: This answer does not require you to write big paragraphs but must be precise in explaining what defines your professionalism and skill set, which will help you as a student of IPMX. Give proof that you have the right abilities that admissions committees look for. You’ll be one step closer to receiving an admission letter if you do so.

  • Community Spirit
  • Global Awareness
  • Self-Awareness

Essay 4: Provide any other information you would like to share in support of your application. (150 words)

Analysis: This isn’t a trick question if that’s what you thought it would be; it’s typically posed at the end, and you should anticipate this question to be asked. It lets you emphasise two particular points: why you’re the most outstanding applicant and why you’re excited to study at the said university/B-school. Consider it your case’s concluding argument.

Take advantage of the opportunity to market yourself by framing your response in a way that demonstrates the benefits of approving your admission over the next applicant, and don’t be afraid to exhibit a little bit of your personality. There are specific points you may consider mentioning in this answer, like-

  1. Brag about yourself
  2. Reiterate your skills
  3. Talk about skills you are currently developing
