Home » Vishesh Kashipathi Chaluvaraju’s Journey to LBS MiM

Vishesh Kashipathi Chaluvaraju’s acceptance into the London Business School’s Master in Management (MiM) program is a testament to his unwavering dedication, academic brilliance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. With a strong foundation in finance, a diverse range of interests, and a clear vision for his future, Vishesh’s journey to one of the most prestigious business schools in the world was both challenging and rewarding.

Academic Excellence

Vishesh’s academic achievements are nothing short of extraordinary. Graduating from Christ University with a Bachelor of Commerce in International Finance, he specialized in the US CPA and CFA courses, securing an impressive CGPA of 9.79/10. His academic journey was marked by consistent excellence, as reflected in his XII percentage of 95.67% from Christ Junior College and his X percentage of 95.2% from The East-West School.

Vishesh’s academic prowess extended beyond just grades. He was awarded multiple scholarships and accolades, including the CFA Institute Student Scholarship, awarded to the top 10% of students, and the Merit Scholarship for exceptional performance across academics, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. He also stood out in national competitions, making it to the top 2% of Deloitte’s Graduate Student Maverick Competition and the top 5% of EY’s Young Tax Professional of the Year.

Professional Journey

Vishesh’s professional experience is a blend of internships and full-time roles that provided him with a well-rounded perspective in finance. His journey began with a 7-month internship at EY, where he worked as an Assurance Intern, auditing wealth and asset management companies in the USA. This was followed by a 1 year and 8-month internship at the Center for Academic and Professional Support (CAPS) at Christ University, where he excelled as a Production Specialist, contributing significantly to content creation in the education sector.

In his most recent role as a Valuations Analyst at KPMG, Vishesh honed his skills in the valuations function under Deal Advisory. His experience in these roles gave him a deep understanding of the financial sector, but it also led him to a critical realization—his desire to be more closely associated with the lifecycle of a business or product, rather than just the financial valuations.

Leadership and Community Involvement

Vishesh’s leadership potential is evident in his community involvement. As a College Ambassador for the Bangalore Student Community, he played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, raising funds for vaccination in remote areas and coordinating the supply of necessities during the peak of the second wave. His efforts led to the inoculation of 1,269 people and provided crucial logistical support for food donations in economically weak areas.

One of his early leadership experiences was at the age of 14, when he participated in a national-level civic fest called Balajanaagraha. His efforts in convincing authorities to lay a cement road on a dilapidated street, along with his initiatives in public education on waste segregation through street plays, were recognized with a Runner-up award in the competition out of over 2,000 schools.

Challenges and Growth

Despite his numerous strengths, Vishesh faced significant challenges in his journey. His professional experience, while impressive, primarily consisted of internships and a short full-time stint at KPMG. This posed a challenge when competing with candidates who had more extensive full-time work experience. Additionally, his desire to transition from a valuations-focused role to a more holistic involvement in product management or private equity/venture capital required a compelling narrative to demonstrate his readiness for such a shift.

Another challenge was articulating his long-term vision in a way that connected his diverse interests—finance, product management, and societal impact—into a coherent and convincing story. Vishesh’s aspirations to venture into climate financing and create financial instruments like green bonds required a strong case to be made for why the LBS MiM was the right program to help him achieve these goals.
